3D modeling of brain-barriers: blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-cerebrospinal fluid (B-CSF) barriers

This project entitled “Toward 3D modeling of brain-barriers” is funded (2021-2022) by DAAD as a Program for Project-Related Personal Exchange (PPP) with the Czech Republic. The project is in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Marek Joukal, Masaryk University (MUNI), Brno, Czech Republic.

In this project, we focus on studying various types of materials that can support 3D modeling of the brain barriers, such as blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-cerebrospinal fluid (B-CSF) barriers. These barriers are key regulators of the central nervous system (CNS) homeostasis and, therefore, are involved in the initiation and progression of various neurological disorders such as subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), nerve injury, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, neuroinflammation, and Alzheimer’s disease.
